Day 16 - The money shot
Forget the swelling, this is what it's all about!
These two shots of my bite - the first taken the night before surgery and the second this morning - show how amazing jaw surgery really is. Looking at them makes all that worry, stress and pain during the last 2 years totally worth it!
In fact, i'm so chuffed with the way things are looking I keep impersonating the bird from the Bailey's advert every time I pass a mirror (if you havn't seen this ad, it's a woman singing about loving coffee, but all you see of her is her perfect bite!)
So to all those recovering with me, hang in there, we've made it though the hard bit and recovery will be over in no time. To others about to undergo or starting the journey towards surgery - don't be scared, you're doing something so worthwhile that will give you a lifetime of pleasure, and the time spent in braces will seem insignificant once you're done...

Your new bite looks fantastic!
Your bite is awesome! I just got braced up a couple of weeks ago to do the same thing!
Congrats on all you patience and perseverance, your blog is very helpful to me!
Brent
Whoa! What a HUGE difference in your bite! It looks amazing! I'm just finishing Day 10, and looking forward to being unwired tomorrow. I've had a lot of tension in my jaw for the past few days... hopefully moving from wired to rubberbanded will help.
Best,
Jennifer.
Hi Graham - Thanks! I'm really pleased with how the bite is looking so far and can't wait to see it in situ once the swelling's all gone - which seems to be taking forever!
Hi Jennifer, hope the unwiring goes well. As for the tension, I've been lying down, closing my eyes and trying to soften all the muscles in my jaw and face. Having done this several times each day I havn't suffered any spasms or tightness, maybe you could give this a go?
Brent - glad you're finding it useful! Good luck on the journey :)
Wow the pictures are amazing... can't wait to see you next to when the swelling's gone down. Keep slupping! s
Thanks old fruit! I'll be in touch when it's time for some medicinal cocktails - when they said liquid diet they never said what type :D
I'm 32 (33 in a few weeks -- eek!) and just got braces on Monday (and will be having surgery early next year). As a fellow urban, single gal, I've already had a few "why the hell did I do this" moments. Reading your blog has really helped me in those down times to realize that while it may suck now, it will get better and soon (hopefully) they'll be off and I'll be happy I did it. Thanks for the motivation!!! - S
Hi S, thanks for your comment. I remember being where you are with all the worry about whether you're doing the right thing. But the time will soon go by, trust me. Glad you're finding my story helpful. Keep reading all the blogs you can, they really helped me during those dark moments of doubt :)
